South Island Aggregates Profile

South Island Aggregates Ltd. was founded in 2006, in response to a dwindling local aggregate market. With the impending closures of two of the Island's major suppliers, partners Mike Kelly and Marty Block recognized the need for readily accessible construction products. With a joint background in land and residential development, Mike and Marty were well aware of the pending aggregate shortage and responded by sourcing a new supply of local aggregates.

SIA opened with the purchase of our main quarry at 640 Stebbings Road, a 50-acre site south of Shawnigan Lake. From this central location, we supply Greater Victoria and southern Vancouver Island. The rock in our quarry has proven to be extremely hard and is considered of the highest quality.

Upon establishing our original location, the demand for our product was so great that we rapidly expanded our facilities: acquiring a wash plant and many new pieces of major equipment, increasing our trucking fleet, and have since added several more sites. We operate a sand and gravel pit at Dougan Lake, south of Duncan; and our latest achievement: a gravel pit at Haslam Creek, between Ladysmith and Nanaimo.
